# capy recover: Restore a Lost Master Key

> Restore an organization master key from its 24-word recovery phrase.

## Synopsis

```bash theme={null}
capy recover
capy recover --web
```

## Description

Use `capy recover` after losing the wrapped master key on a device while retaining the organization's 24-word recovery phrase. Capy signs you in if needed, asks which organization the phrase belongs to, validates the phrase, and writes a new wrapped local key for that organization.

If a key already exists for the selected organization on this device, Capy asks before overwriting it. Keep the recovery phrase private. The global `--web` flag renders the organization and phrase flow in a local browser.
