# capy pair: Pair This Machine Through a Browser

> Sign in with a browser device grant and retrieve keys previously activated with capy transport.

## Synopsis

```bash theme={null}
capy pair
capy pair --force
```

## Description

Run `capy pair` on the machine you want to add. It prints a QR code, a browser link, and a short code. Open or scan the link on a device where you can sign in to Capy. The CLI polls for that browser approval.

After the browser approves the device grant, Capy shows the returned account and asks whether to enable this location as that account. The default is **No**. Run the command in an interactive terminal: `--json` changes its output but does not remove the confirmation. Until you explicitly confirm, Capy installs neither a session nor keys.

After confirmation, Capy retrieves the key material that a signed-in browser previously activated with [`capy transport`](/docs/cli/transport). It installs entries only for the authenticated account. If no activated keys are available, run `capy transport` on a machine that already has them, activate its link in a browser, and try again.

<Warning>
  Review the displayed account before confirming, especially on a shared machine. An automated workflow must not answer the confirmation prompt on your behalf.
</Warning>

## Options

| Flag | Description |
| - | - |
| `--json` | Keep the success result on stdout as JSON. Progress, including the full approval link, is written to stderr. It still requires the interactive account confirmation. Do not log it. |
| `--force` | Replace a different existing local key for an organization on this machine. |
